The Mount Pleasant Operation (MPO) is located in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales (NSW), approximately 3 kilometres (km) north-west of Muswellbrook and approximately 50 km north-west of Singleton.
Modification 4 (MOD 4) was approved by the Department of Planning and Environment in late 2018 permitting relocation of the site’s existing rail, water supply and associated electricity supply infrastructure. Construction of the Rail 2 infrastructure began in late 2020.
In early 2021, Apical Environmental Services (Apical) provided a senior resource to the selected project management contractor (Axiom Project Services) to perform the role of Project Environmental Manager for Mach Energy’s Rail 2 Project (R2P).
Key MOD 4 construction activities associated with the R2P included:
Apical was selected by Axiom Project Services and endorsed by Mach Energy to provide environmental services for the Rail 2 Project. Apical’s resource played a key role as a member of the Project Leadership Team (PLT) aiding in successful project delivery.
Services included:
“On the Rail 2 Project for MACH Energy, Apical was engaged to establish and maintain a robust and practical environmental system for our project.
Scott Grunsell (Apical) successfully identified the project environmental requirements and implemented numerous systems, procedures and processes to ensure our project achieved its environmental compliance obligations.
Scott brought a high level of knowledge and professionalism to the Environmental Manager position and produced a high quality of work in a fast paced and demanding role on a very successful project”.
Konrad Litfin – Managing Director, Axiom Project Services
“Our proximity to the town of Muswellbrook and having already established long term, good relationships with near neighbours presented further challenges for the Rail 2 Project team. Our social licence to operate is crucial to the ongoing success of the Mount Pleasant Operation.
Working with Scott Grunsell (Apical Environmental Services) I was confident from the start that the Rail 2 Project would adhere to our strict consent conditions and enable us to continue to be good neighbours in all aspects of the Project.
Scott is the ultimate professional, his knowledge and expertise are to be commended and his ability to stop, review and re-evaluate a situation will be an aspect of his approach I will always be extremely thankful for”.
